EXCHANGES
Each Exchange holds it's own selection of coins.
SELECTING YOUR EXCHANGE(S)
At this point you have decided on owning, spending and trading your coins. There are basically 2 things to consider in selecting your exchange"
- Finding the exchange that holds/trades the specific coin(s) you are interested in.
- Since you will be holding your coins on these exchanges, you want to make sure the exchange is reputable.
In both of the above cases, a good place to find the exchange you want and how reputable it is, would be a site like coinmarketcap.com Coinmarketcap.com lists a majority of all the coins in existance. It can sort them in many different ways (Total Marketcap, Total Value, Percentage price change, Etc.)
There are are 2 basic things that you need to be aware of in opening an account with the exchanges:
- Some exchanges require KYC verification before you can trade. KYC means you will have to enter personal information as well as upload a picture of yourself with some form of accepted identification.
- Because of strict, US legislation, some exchanges do not allow US citizens to open an account on their site.
For US citizens, here's an exhaustive list of popular crypto exchanges available in the US. The list includes the exchange name linked to its homepage, the approximate number of cryptocurrencies offered, and a 5-star representation of its CoinMarketCap reviewed ranking (based on trust, liquidity, and volume scores converted to stars).
